Cultural Redress
The cultural redress mechanisms provided for in the Deed of Settlement were designed to recognise the importance of specific sites and areas to Taranaki Whānui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika within the Port Nicholson Block. On 2 September 2009 the following properties transferred to the ownership of the Trust:
- 1-3 Thorndon Quay (land and building)
- 51-53 Thorndon Quay (Pipitea Marae, land and buildings)
- 81-87 Thorndon Quay (land and building)
- Former Waiwhetu Primary School (land and building)
- Former Wainuiomata College (land and building)
- Former Wainuiomata Intermediate (land and building)
- Section at corner Whites Line East and Waiwhetu Road (land)
Pipitea Marae
The fee simple title in the following properties was also transferred to the Trust on settlement date. However each of the following will be managed under provisions of the Reserves Act 1977. Joint management of these sites will be undertaken where the Trust will work with the appropriate central or local government authority (ie Greater Wellington Regional Council, Department of Conservation, Wellington City Council, Hutt City Council and Upper Hutt City Council)
- Lake Kohangatera lakebed and surrounding esplanade
- Lake Kohangapirirpiri lakebed and surrounding esplanade
- Dendroglyph sites at Parangarahu
- Matiu/Somes Island (land)
- Makaro Island (land)
- Mokopuna Island (land)
- Point Dorset Recreaton Reserve (land)
- Korokoro Gateway (land)
- Wi Tako Scenic Reserve (land)
