Upholding the Mana of Parangarehu
Taranaki Whānui is seeking an uri to represent our iwi on Rōpū Tiaki — the co-management group responsible for protecting and restoring the Parangarehu Lakes (Kohangapiripiri, Kohangatera) in partnership with Greater Wellington Regional Council.
This is a unique opportunity to uphold the tikanga, kōrero tuku iho, and environmental values of Taranaki Whānui, while reconnecting our uri with these culturally and ecologically significant places.
About Rōpū Tiaki
Established in 2012 and reformed in 2016, Rōpū Tiaki is a co-management body made up of:
Together, they carry a 500-year vision for Parangarehu, grounded in partnership, restoration, and intergenerational stewardship.
Role Summary
As a representative, you’ll:
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
✅ Has strong grounding in tikanga, reo, and whakapapa
✅ Is confident in cultural leadership and engagement
✅ Has experience or interest in conservation or environmental restoration
✅ Is committed to working outdoors and reconnecting uri to whenua
✅ Embodies kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga, and rangatiratanga
